A Luxurious Home Away from Home

What could be more relaxing than spending time in a gorgeous vacation home with all of the services of a luxury hotel, a private, white sand beach on the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, with a large, serene swimming pool steps away? Not much. That’s why I love the Caribbean Club Condominium Hotel on Grand Cayman Island’s spectacular Seven Mile Beach. This boutique hotel is the most exclusive accommodation on Grand Cayman but the atmosphere is comfortable, playful and relaxed.

One unique feature of the Caribbean Club is that rather than traditional hotel rooms or suites, guests stay in a true home away from home. The property’s 37 suites are really full-sized condominiums offering either one, two or three bedrooms, large indoor and outdoor living spaces, floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass doors to make the most of the spectacular sea views and large kitchens with all the modern amenities.

The suites are elegantly and comfortably furnished and serviced daily, including the option to have your kitchen stocked with groceries so you can easily prepare your own meals for dining on your large balcony. Room service is also available and the property’s restaurant, Luca, is a must to visit at least once during your stay. I love their champagne brunch buffet. The large condominiums and casual style make the Caribbean Club a great place to vacation with family or friends.

There are so many things to do in Grand Cayman, beyond relaxing and enjoying the spectacular view from your seaside balcony or cooling off in the swimming pool or the clear ocean water. Popular activities include sailing, diving, a wide variety of water sports and shopping. The concierge at the Caribbean Club can help you make arrangements.

While visiting, try some of the local flavours, in the form of one of Grand Cayman’s most unique products, Seven Fathoms Premium Rum. The distillery at the Cayman Spirits Company offers tours and tastings and an opportunity to learn about traditional rum making in the West Indies. The alcohol is made from local sugar cane and distilled in a traditional copper pot still before being placed in bourbon casks to age. Where the process for making Seven Fathoms rum differs slightly from other varieties is in the fact that these barrels are stored under the sea at a depth of 42 feet or seven fathoms, to age. This unique process yields a delightful rum that I enjoyed later at the Margaritaville swim-up bar nearby.

Whether your day on Grand Cayman consists of active water sports, a gruelling swim up to the bar at Margaritaville for a taste of Seven Fathoms rum or a nap by the pool, you’ll want to end it by catching the sunset from your private paradise on Seven Mile Beach!
